Why it is built this way
Why the answers are not in the page
Grading happens on the server, not in the browser. The correct answers never reach the page you are playing on, so they cannot be pulled out of the network tab or read off the source while you are working through a gap. That matters more than it sounds: a self-graded exercise you can peek at stops being a test of recall within about a week. Stories also stay in a browsable library rather than expiring at midnight, so a story you found hard can be redone. The completed stories are also published openly in the story archive, with their translations and a full vocabulary breakdown. Reading and filling in the gaps are two different exercises, and hiding the prose would only have made the reading worse.
What it trains
- Read connected German rather than word lists.
- Use context and grammar to narrow down which word fits — the gap often only accepts one gender, case or verb form.
- Meet vocabulary in the collocations it actually appears in.
Questions about Fill the Story
- Is there a new story every day?
- Yes, one story is published per day, and every previous story stays available in the library. You are not limited to today’s.
- What level are the stories?
- Stories are written for a specific CEFR level, so an A1 story uses A1 vocabulary and grammar. The library shows the level for each one.
